Why Lifelong Learning Matters - A Fall Chat with OLLI UMass Boston & BH Village members (3:00)
Friday, November 12, 2021, 3:00 PM
Virtual; Registrants will receive the Zoom link prior to event date.
We know that Boston area older adults have many great opportunities to become engaged in educational and social programs. This event will feature information about the Beacon Hill Village as well as OLLI at UMass Boston. Participants will hear from members of each organization as they reflect on how being a part of each group has been a positive experience in their lives.
Villages began as a way for neighbors in their senior years to help each other age well together, stay active and independent, and remain at home as long as possible. The strong, social connections made in these “Villages” are vital to their success. The first Village in the country began in 2002 right here in Boston and was named Beacon Hill Village.
That same year, a lifelong learning program started at UMass Boston. Lifelong learning as an organized means of providing continual education and enrichment opportunities for older adults could possibly trace its roots to 1962 and the New School in New York City. 22 years later, the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) continues to provide courses and programs to engage its members and embracing the simple phrase of “Learning for the LOVE of it!”
Attend this joint program and learn more about both organizations from those who can tell an organization's story best: its members.
This virtual program is presented as part of Beacon Hill Village’s Seasonal Chat series. Registration required online in advance here or by calling Beacon Hill Village at 617-723-9713. Registrants will receive the Zoom invitation information in advance of the program. Free and open to the public. This program will be recorded. Closed captioning is available.
