Let’s Talk Hospice with Kate Sciacca, NP

Studies show about 80% of Americans would prefer to die at home but only 20% actually do. Join Kate Sciacca for an information packed talk about hospice care and the role it plays turning this preference into reality.

Kate will talk about myths and common misperceptions about hospice care starting with – hospice is not just “one thing.” She will give an overview of the various forms it can take; the different locations where hospice services are offered; and when hospice can be most helpful. She will also offer tips for making sure you get the kind of hospice care you want. Finally, Kate will talk about what to expect in terms of costs and logistics and provide information on Boston area resources and hospice agencies.

Kate Sciacca is a Nurse Practitioner who has been volunteering at Beacon Hill Village since 2014. She has collaborated with BHV to give many lectures on both health and illness to our members on a wide range of topics. She received her BS and MS in nursing from Northeastern University and then completed the Harvard Interprofessional Palliative Care Fellowship. She is currently working at Brigham and Women's Hospital and Dana Farber Cancer Institute with a special focus on palliative care for patients with kidney disease.  She has close ties with many members at Beacon Hill Village and enjoys connecting with the community through small group teaching, believing that knowledge is power, and where you get health information matters.

This virtual event is for BHV members only and is presented as part of BHV’s Living Well Ending Well series. Registration required (click on "Register Now" button at top-right once you're logged in) or by calling Beacon Hill Village at 617-723-9713.
