Join BHV member John Mathurin on this day trip to Salem. Explore the only mansion on historic Chestnut Street open to the public. Deemed the “most beautiful street in America,” Chestnut Street was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973 and contains a number of architecturally significant works of Samuel McIntire. The Phillips House, a Colonial Revival gem, houses a family collection that spans five generations from Salem’s Great Age of Sail. Enjoy a glimpse into the private world of the Phillips family and their staff during the early decades of the 20th century. The kitchen, pantry, and domestic staff bedroom present a rarely seen picture of how great houses functioned as new technologies were being introduced.
