Program -Giacomo Puccini, Crisantemi for string quartet -Charlotte Bray, Fire Burning in Snow for soprano, oboe, clarinet, violin & cello – US premiere -Gordon Jacob, Sextet in B-flat Major for piano & winds, Op. 6 -Sergei Rachmaninoff, Trio élégiaque No. 2 in d minor, Op. 9 Puccini shares a musical bouquet in memory of a friend, and Charlotte Bray reflects on obsession, desire, solitude, and lost love. Dedicated “to the memory of a great artist,” Rachmaninoff’s tribute to Tchaikovsky was composed in a flurry of emotion in just five weeks, revealing celestial glimpses of his mentor in a rapturous outpouring of pathos and passion.
