News on Grocery Delivery, Food Shopping, Restaurant Delivery and Take-out, and Essential Services

BEACON HILL VILLAGE’S SERVICES

Shopping Trips (you do the shopping): The Village continues to offer shopping trips to Stop 'N Shop on Tuesdays and Fridays, and Market Basket and Trader Joe’s on certain Wednesdays. Call 617-723-9713 to register or email memberservices@beaconhillvillage.org.

Grocery Delivery (we do the shopping): If you are interested in having the Village do your shopping, drivers and volunteers would be happy to help. Please note that these folks cannot guarantee shopping from a specific store; they go where more product is available. Lists can be emailed to memberservices@beaconhillvillage.org or called in to 617-723-9713. Please see details from our March 25 email which can be found on the BHV website.

Please provide shopping lists to the office: Monday for Tuesday delivery, Wednesday for Thursday delivery, Thursday for Friday delivery (Thursday is a temporary feature to assist our members during this crisis.)

Tips to consider when sending in your lists during this time:
Given that the stores are not stocked as they usually are, your shopper will do their best to get you as many items on your list as they can.

If you will accept substitutions - please say so. (Brand, size, flavor, item)

Note: if you do not offer substitutions (or even if you do), you may end up with no item for a specific selection.

You may want to add a couple additional non-perishable items to your list.

To the extent that you are able to group items from the same department together on your list (Dairy, Produce, Dry Goods, Meat, Frozen, Deli, Paper Goods, etc.) that would be most helpful.

Grocery delivery guidelines with everyone's safety in mind:
Drivers will call when they are on their way to deliver, and give you a total for your order. If possible, please make out a check to your driver for the exact amount, place it in an envelope and tape to your door or give it to your door-person, etc. (whatever works for your specific circumstances.)

It is not necessary to tip the driver.

Drivers will leave groceries outside of your apartment, on a table (if available) or on the floor, etc.

We understand that not everyone can carry in their bags, and drivers will do so for you, but we ask that you observe social distancing guidelines - six feet of distance between people.

We will be using paper/plastic bags for now.

UPDATED INFORMATION ON RESTAURANTS AND STORES FOR TAKEOUT AND DELIVERY
For those living near Beacon Hill, here are some restaurants, stores, and other essential services etc. which are available to you provided by the Beacon Hill Business Association. Click here.

For those in the Waterfront, one of our members recommends The Golden Goose on Commercial St. which is always well stocked. “Steve D’Angelis, the owner, is keeping our neighborhood well fed.” Will deliver to the West End and to Beacon Hill.

Another member mentions that the Star Market at North Station is generally well stocked and not too crowded.

Boston Public Market:  will be closed through May 4, but will continue to be a community resource for fresh, local food in two ways:
o     Browse the site for items and stock up through delivery
o     Several vendors will be outside on their plaza selling products.
Go to their website for more information

Again, we suggest the City of Boston site for excellent information on restaurant with takeout and/or delivery services.

Boston Eater also has a great list of grocery shopping and grocery and food service options, visit this link
